Treatment Approach

Rosanna practices a combination of many different styles of acupuncture but her general treatment approach is very gentle and collaborative with the patient. This is a healing journey you will go on together. She works frequently with patients that are afraid of needles and find they respond well to her gentle approach. If you have any concerns about whether acupuncture is right for you or not, please don’t hesitate to reach out. In order to achieve her treatment goals, she uses the tools listed below.

Traditional Chinese Acupuncture

Insertion of very fine needles into specific points on meridians of the body to adjust the flow of qi and correct physical or emotional imbalances.

Japanese Acupuncture

Meridian Therapy, a very gentle form of acupuncture suitable for sensitive people and older children.

Trigger Point Needling

Also called A Shi (ah shir) needling.  Insertion of very thin acupuncture needles into specific myofascial points (trigger points) in muscles instead of meridian points.  The needling of these points triggers the release of contractures in muscles that cause predictable pain patterns and can be very helpful in treating musculoskeletal issues.  Insertion of needles into these points often causes the muscle to jump or ache as the bound area of tissue is released.

Acupressure

Similar to acupuncture, but points are stimulated with pressure without inserting needles.

Moxibustion

Moxa (Chinese mugwort) is burned on or near the skin to warm areas of cold and help move blood and qi.

Cupping

Small glass cups are placed on the skin using vacuum suction to increase blood flow.  Improves microcirculation and causes old stagnant blood and toxins trapped in the local tissue to come to the surface of the skin to be cleared by the lymphatic system.  Useful in the treatment of musculoskeletal issues, digestive issues, colds and flu, and allergies.

Guasha

The practice of rubbing or scraping repeatedly a part or parts of the body with a smooth-edged tool that increases circulation to the treated area.  These repeated strokes on the skin affect microcirculation in the affected tissue and cause relief in pain patterns and address inflammation.  Gua sha is generally performed on a person’s back, chest, buttocks, neck, arms, and legs.

Shonishin

Japanese Pediatric treatments for young children, starting at birth. Extremely gentle with no needle insertion.

Herbal Medicine

Traditional Chinese herbal medicine, prescribed as tea pills, whole raw herbs, or easy-to-prepare granules based on your needs.

E-stim / electro-acupuncture

A gentle electrical current is run through acupuncture needles. Great for injuries and giving labor a boost.

Tuina

Traditional Chinese massage, performed on a clothed patient.

Chi Nei Tsang

Chinese abdominal massage.

Yoga

Instruction, referrals and coaching attuned to individual physical and emotional needs.
